Class Review: Pure Barre

First of all, welcome back from vacation, Addy! I missed her. Can you tell? 😉

Secondly, I cheated on my beloved Bar Method this morning and tried Pure Barre for the first time and whoa, what a workout. Katie was a frequent Pure Barre visitor while living in Boston (now I know how she didn’t gain any campaign weight!) and we went and tried the new studio that opened in D.C. a few months ago. Pure Barre is very similar to Bar Method, using light weights and small movements to isolate and exhaust muscles.

The warm-up was crazy! I was dripping with sweat in no time (and pretty much for the entirety of class) and we did a ton of arm and ab work just to get the class going. I never felt crazy lost because most of the moves felt familiar but I definitely felt like I was working super hard the entire time. We did a ton of ab work at the end as well. I will be sore tomorrow, no doubt about that. The instructor was also very friendly and helped me out when I arrived and told her I was new. It was a very welcoming environment.

The studio is located on P Street in between Dupont and Georgetown and is pretty small with a reception area, a bathroom and the actual workout room. There is a variety of Pure Barre clothing for sale and a few of the women in class were rocking this cute, slouched open- back t-shirt. We used some equipment which is pictured below.

Overall, I enjoyed the class. It was a great workout and went by quickly, plus the music was pumping and there was plenty of energy. I will always love Bar Method though – that will never change! It was fun to give a new workout a try. Maybe I’ll be back to Pure Barre again!

I am finally going to Little Serow tonight and could not be more excited. I cannot wait. Is it 5pm yet?

Also, I’m really looking forward to seeing some family and friends this weekend but part of me just wants to run off and see Despicable Me 2 all alone. Anyone else?!
