Mold

Breaking news: I found mold in my water bottle at work. Even though I am looking forward to a relaxing evening at home, I will definitely be running ALL of my water bottles through the dishwasher. Gross, gross, gross. I am super ready for the weekend – anyone else?! Mostly because I am looking forward to some serious relaxation. I may have over-scheduled myself the past couple of weekends and while they were filled with fun, sometimes a girl just needs to sit on her couch and watch TV (or Game of Thrones on her computer…). I am also battling a hybrid of a cold/sinus infection/allergies and today I woke up with SERIOUSLY clogged ears, which is just super annoying. Get out of here fluid – go bug someone else! Is anyone else picturing the Mucinex people dancing around in my eardrums? No? Just me? I think I need a hot date with my Neti Pot this weekend. I’m sure you all wanted to know that. (By the way, there are an insane amount of photos on the Internet of people using their Neti Pot’s which is just weird and gross. Do that in privacy, people!)

Workouts this week…well workouts this week haven’t happened. Maybe it’s my cold/sinus infection/allergy issues or maybe it’s been my social plans at night, but I haven’t completed a single workout this week. And you know what, whatever. My body is clearly asking for rest and rest it shall receive. I’ll probably kick it back into gear this weekend (lord knows I’m never one to miss a free class at a boutique fitness studio) but sometimes you just need a week off and it sure is fabulous. In other semi-workout related news, I finally went to the doctor this morning to get my foot/ankle checked out and it turns out that I have a case of peroneal tendonitis. Exciting! Or not. I am now the proud owner of a new pair of orthaodics, a prescription for an anti-inflammatory medicine, specific stretches to be completed in the morning and at night and an order to not run for a couple of weeks. The good news is that I can any other type of workout that I want, but just no running. Which honestly, I’m kind of okay with for right now.

Don’t know what peroneal tendonitis is? Yea, I didn’t either.

The peroneal tendons are those that run on the outside of the ankle just behind the bone called the fibula.  Tendons connect muscle-to-bone and allow them to exert their force across the joints that separate bones.  Ligaments, on the other hand, connect bone-to-bone. “Tendonitis” is perhaps not the most appropriate term. This word implies that there is inflammation in the tendon.  The reality is that there is “tendinosis,” which means that there is enlargement and thickening with swelling of the tendon. This usually occurs in the setting of overuse, meaning a patient or athlete doing a repetitive activity which irritates inflames the tendon over long periods of time.

Thanks, American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society!

I am going to do my best to follow the instructions from my doctor and heal this foot up!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?
