Big news.

I ran last night!

I ended up canceling my Bar class that I had scheduled for the night – I just wasn’t feeling it. On Sunday night, my Cherry Blossom Virtual Training email popped up with the first week’s training schedule. I have to admit, I was super intimidated reading the mileage and started to regret signing up for the Intermediate training level. What was I thinking? I honestly haven’t run since the 15k in early December. And while it was good to have some time off from running to rest my hips and work on my flexibility, I was totally out of running shape.

Though it was a little wet, it was actually a really nice night to run. I suited up in some neon running gear and my new sneakers and set off for an easy two miles. The training plan said to run 2-4 miles today and seeing as I haven’t run in ages, the 2 mile mark felt perfect for me.

I’d say this was a successful first run. The data from the MapMyRun App is probably not super accurate (not like Addy’s Garmin). I mean I did not feel like I was moving under a 10-minute mile pace. I took it easy and stretched out and did a familiar route that goes down U Street. I love running down U because there is enough room to run in the street and there is so much going on that it’s a nice distraction.

I felt great – definitely winded – but great when I got home. Tonight the training program calls fro 3-5 miles. I think I’ll stick to the lower mileage until I feel like I’m back in a better groove. A quick run before watching the President tonight? Works for me.
